Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Four blocks from Azalea Park, Cuppa Manna, a charming café just off Main Street in Summerville’s Historic Downtown area, is the place to go for a cozy coffee house vibe. Antique-tiled ceilings, rustic hardwood floors, and loads of natural light from large storefront windows make Cuppa Manna a favorite spot for locals to work, study, socialize, or relax while enjoying delicious coffee. The generous selection of bubble tea flavors makes Cuppa Manna unique, aside from its modest breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu.

Around the corner and what many locals deem the best restaurant in Summerville, The Icehouse offers local farm-to-table southern comfort food in a cozy and rustic dining setting. This family-owned affair retains its southern charm with its wood-rich interior, brick walls, and warm lighting. Renowned for its exceptional dishes, excellent service, and smiling staff, The Icehouse is a must-try for anyone looking to indulge in first-class southern cooking.

For exceptional theater, the James F. Dean Community Theater is a historic theater house that produces around six to eight productions a year, including a youth series. Home to the Flowertown Players, the community’s premier theater company, the James F. Dean Community Theater houses an impressive main stage accompanying 209 seats. In addition, the theater hosts special events throughout the year, including live jazz, stand-up comedy, and more.

Known as the heart of Summerville and outfitted with a new, award-winning renovation, Hutchinson Square is often the site of many community gatherings. What makes Summerville beautiful is wonderfully encapsulated in this gorgeous landmark, with its stately oak trees, manicured lawns, and magnificent fountain reminiscent of the town’s appealing natural landscaping. Beloved by locals and visitors alike, the square remains one of the many points of pride and joy Summerville offers.

Things to Do

Summerville locals are treated to numerous seasonal festivals and events. One, in particular, is the Sweet Tea Festival, an exciting street fair that draws in hundreds of visitors. The Sweet Tea Festival takes place on Main Street in mid-September and celebrates the birthplace of sweet tea. In addition, participants can enjoy delicious foods from the many food trucks, as well as help to crown the Tea of the Year.

Another favorite festival and one of the largest festivals in the southeastern United States, the Flowertown Festival, brings in hundreds of artists and artisans from around the country to showcase and sell their works. First launched in 1972 by the YMCA to promote community health and wellbeing, this bustling three-day festival, hosted in Azalea Park, offers activities and rides for children, a farmer’s market, and a fantastic selection of delicious food.

Azalea Park remains a favorite destination for locals when not hosting a festival or community event. Famous for its brilliant spring blooms of azaleas and other flowers, this park is a perfect place for an afternoon stroll or bicycle ride. In addition, Azalea Park offers other wonderful amenities, including tennis courts, gazebos, bridges, and a romantic pond to sit and enjoy the park’s gorgeous colorful display.

In the southwestern area of Summerville lies Ashley River Park, a unique 85-acre riverfront park. This impressive public space offers a wide-ranging array of outdoor activities – particularly a pavilion, trails, picnic shelters, playground, festival lawn, perennial garden, dog park, and kayak launch. Unique to Ashley River Park is the large fishing pond with boardwalk walkways, a climbing wall, and a ropes course.
